Cross Country Success - 22.11.22

On Tuesday 15 athletes from Year 5 and 6 took part in School Games Area cross country tournament. I was so incredibly proud of all our competitors. They demonstrated determination, courage, resilience and competed to the absolute best of their abilities. Daisy L in Year 6 followed up her success last year with a superb 2nd place finish in the girls’ event. As a result of their performances, Daisy L, Maysa, Ellessia, Penelope, Jack C and Harry have now qualified for the next stage of competition, which will be held in January.

Well done to everyone who took part.

School Council 2022-2023

We are very proud to introduce our School Council members for this academic year.

They have all been voted onto the School Council by their classmates and have been chosen to represent the thoughts, opinions and ideas of the children. This week we have met for the first time and have begun discussing important issues. Our first item for discussion has been which charities to support this year - we have decided to adopt one local, one national and one global charity to raise for money. Our School Council is:

Year 6: Ruby and Yazan

Year 5: Flo and Moses

Year 4: Amelie and Lincoln

Year 3: Ava and Magnus

Year 2: Samantha and James

Year 1: Isla and Oliver

If you have any ideas to further improve our school, please pass these on to your School Council member.

World Book Day 2022
Thursday 3 March 2022

There were many reading activities taking place around the School on World Book Day – character profiles, book designs, ‘reading rivers’, book recommendations and lots of sharing and reading of great books!

As well as the fantastic costumes, we have loved seeing the children’s artwork created on pebbles or potatoes. Well done and thank you to all who took part – everyone has had a chance to enjoy this colourful and varied display.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the book swap too! The ‘mystery reader’ was also a great success. The children loved seeing the photos and guessing the reader!

Year 4 Tennis Skills Festival

On Thursday 26th May, eight of our Y4 pupils went to a tennis skills festival at Hampden Park tennis club.  They got to try lots of different techniques and fun games.

Sports Day 2022

Thank you to everyone - parents, staff and most importantly the children - who made sports day such a fantastic event on Wednesday!

After the disruption of the last couple of years, it was wonderful for us all to be together, celebrating sport. It was an absolute joy to see all our children competing with such skill, determination and enthusiasm.

We would like to extend our thanks to Miss Fenton, our wonderful sports coach, for all her help preparing the children for their events and everything she has given to PE at Herstmonceux this year. I would also like to thank Izzy W from Year 6, who somehow managed to keep a track of the scoring throughout the morning - an unenviable task! Well done everyone!

Life Skills Day - June 2022

On Tuesday, Key Stage 2 pupils took part in a Life Skills Day where the classes mixed together and attended different workshops throughout the day.

The sessions included: First Aid, planting food, yoga and mindfulness, sign language, healthy eating, fundraising, tying ties/shoelaces and map reading.

It was a fantastic day where children not only learnt new skills but more importantly worked together as a community which is our value for this term. Thank you to all
the staff and volunteers for providing the workshops.
