Welcome to Chestnut Class

The staff teaching in Year 3 are Mr Valder, Mrs Campbell, and Mr Russell

We have a very exciting year ahead of us with lots of new things to learn!

Important Information: Our PE lessons this term will be on Monday and Tuesday. In term 1 we will be learning how to be fantastic hockey players with Miss Fenton and Mr Valder.

Be sure to check out our Term 1 topic letter which will give you all the information about the upcoming term.

16th September Update!

This week in English we have completed our first piece of writing, which was a character description of The Iron Man. Mr Valder has been very impressed with our use of adverbs and adjectives.

In science we are learning about forces, and conducted a class experiment to learn about friction. We made predictions and tested them using the scientific method. We discovered which surfaces created the most friction, and which the least.

Half Term Update!

It's been a little while since our last update, but if you've been checking out the weekly Newsflash you'll be up to speed. What did Chestnut class do in term 1? What didn't we do?!

We wrote a character description, a diary entry, poetry and created a report on volcanoes. We practiced times tables every day, and learnt when and where earthquakes happen, and why. We designed, created and evaluated clay volcanoes, and they even erupted!

We also learnt all about forces, and what makes things move, stop moving, or change the speed of movement. Mr Valder was impressed by the questioning minds he has in his class, and can't wait for term 2. Check out our term 2 topic letter, which will be with you soon.

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a brilliant Christmas and New Year break. Chestnuts have made an excellent start to term 3. I love their endless enthusiasm and joy they show in their learning!

Term 3 is all about Ancient Egypt, which will colour our learning in English, history, geography and even PE! It's going to be a great way to start the year. Our topic letter for term 3 will be out soon.

Term 4

Can you believe we're over halfway through the school year!? In term 4 our topic the Stone Age. We've got so much to learn about that period, how people lived, what they ate, and how we know about those times.

Check out the weekly Newsflashes for updates on how we're getting on, and our term 4 topic letter which should be out now!
